IRISH model Holly Keating is looking forward to a chilled out Christmas and with good reason – the sultry model has had a pretty tough year.
The 23-year-old was diagnosed with meningitis earlier this summer and says it knocked her for six.
“I was sick for two months over the summer and it really took it out of me. I caught meningitis – it was really tough,” she told The Herald.
“Not only in terms of what it does to your health but also financially.
”Obviously you can’t work while you have it and you have to pay the hospital bills. It was definitely a challenge. I was off the radar for two months.”
“It was definitely one of the hardest parts of the year.”
”It was viral meningitis and I suffered with these blinding headaches. It was a real strain and quite scary so I’m just looking forward to Christmas and the new year.”
Holly, who used to work as a horse riding instructor, will spend the festive season with her family and her boyfriend, former Dublin footballer Michael McCarthy.
”We don’t live together yet. We will soon - probably as some stage next year,” she said. “But Micheal has gone back to college now he’s no longer playing for Dublin so that’s where his focus is at the moment.”
“Plus there are advantages to living at home - I get the home cooking and the freedom to go out.”
“But he comes over to my family home on Christmas morning - we have a bit of an open house. Lots of people pop by.”
“So we’ll open our presents and then I’ll spend the rest of the day with my family and my sister. I love Christmas.”
And Holly is planning on jet-setting over to London early next year to get some work with lads’ mag FHM.
”I think after everything that happened last year 2014 is going to be a good year. I’m busy working away with Assets and am really happy with them,” she said.
“I’m just testing out the water and seeing what the modelling scene is like over there,” she said.
“Like I said 2014 is full of opportunities and I’m just going to stay positive.”
