Olympian hurdler Derval O'Rourke believes in the energy-giving goodness of home-grown food. The 60m and 100m national record holder is a strong supporter of the 'Grow It Yourself (GIY)' approach to nourishment for athletes and families.

Fresh and home-grown food is important for well-being and performance, said O'Rourke on a visit to the National Rehabilitation Centre garden in Dun Laoghaire for the launch of the 2014 Get Ireland Growing Fund, in association with AIB.

The fund is open to applications from community groups, schools and not-for-profit initiatives seeking to develop food- growing projects with grants of between €500 and €5,000 on offer. To apply for funding from the Get Ireland Growing Fund, visit www.giyireland.com.
