I'm just off the phone from a runner. "I ran 30k last Saturday in preparation for the Dublin Marathon. I had a woeful time. I was physically sick afterwards. I really began to doubt myself big time. Physically, I'm okay now, but mentally, I'm in bad shape. My get-up-and-go seems to have got up and gone. I just feel like throwing in the towel and giving up."
I could tell he was feeling really low so I introduced him to the mental strength and power of the positive Green Platform and then told him he was currently residing on the negative Red Platform.
We live our lives on either one of two platforms. One is the positive, can-do, make-it-happen Green Platform. This is the platform of responsibility, creativity and joy.
Here we discover that the happiest people don't have the best of everything, they make the best of everything. Underneath the Green Platform is the field of all possibilities where you can dream your best dreams and then bring them into reality.
The other platform is the Red Platform. On that platform I have my victim story, and I'm whinging, whining, moaning and complaining. I'm an energy vampire. I suck energy from you like a vacuum cleaner.
You think you're having a bad day. No, you're not. You just met on the Red Platform. A grievance looking for a cause. Underneath the Red Platform is a septic tank of personal sabotage.
There are only two massive influences in our lives, positive things or negative things. I have positive thoughts and feelings or negative thoughts and feelings.
In our daily lives, we do these two things over and over. We think and we feel. We either think and feel about all the negative things we don't want to create and attract into our lives on the Red Platform, or we think and we feel about all the positive things we want to create and attract into our lives on the Green Platform. On the Green Platform you are inspired and you live with joy, inspiring others as you bring joy into their lives.
You discover your passion, find your true purpose in life and follow your dreams so that you can make a real contribution to humanity.
You are living your truth, and actualising your potential as you follow the true north of your own inner compass. You are real. You are authentic. You are valid.
On the Green Platform, you are genuine – not wandering around with a fake perma-smile, pretending that all is well when it's really not.
There is a three-step process for living on the Green Platform. Step one is you have a human experience. You feel it fully. You honour your human experience. If it's tragedy, you cry the tears. If it's loneliness, you turn on the tap. You are emotionally honest. You are not pouring pink paint over human suffering.
Step two is that you then have a 'white space'. In this space, you have the power to choose your response.
Step three is your choice. You choose the miserable negative Red Platform with its "poor me" victim blaming stories, or you can choose the positive, proactive, constructive Green Platform. Your choice.
I told my marathon man to bounce back on to the Green Platform where his energy would go to what he wants to achieve in his training runs. On this platform, the goal is to enjoy every step of the journey. I'll let you know how he gets on.
