Fitzpatrick and Stack win in Enniscorthy

Tomas Fitzpatrick of Tallaght AC raced to an impressive victory in Sunday's Crean & Crean Enniscorthy 10k, finishing in 29.59 – 18 seconds clear of Gary Thornton (UVU Racing), who placed second in 30.17. Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrock AC finished third in 30.20. Brian Maher (KCH) was fourth in 31.26 and Thomas Hayes (KCH) finished fifth in 31.28. Tom Hogan (SBR) placed sixth in 32.14.

Fiona Stack of Raheny Shamrock AC was a clear winner of the women's event in 36.58. Sonya McConnon (Rathfarnham/ WSAF) finished second in 37.21 and Maria Dolan (Rathfarnham/ WSAF) came in third in 37.37. Jackie Carthy (Kilmore AC) finished fourth in 37.47 and Ann Sullivan (DMP) was fifth in 39.13. Teresa Agar (St Abban's AC) finished sixth in 39.59.


Two former Irish schools' cross-country athletes, Mary Cullen and Michael Mulhare, were on hand to launch this year's Aviva Irish Schools' Cross Country Championships in Santry.

The two international athletes were joined by athletes from Mount Sackville, Co Dublin, Salesian College, Celbridge, Co Kildare, and Castleknock College, Co Dublin, to launch the schools' cross-country season – with the provincial finals scheduled for this week and the finals taking place at the Cork Institute of Technology on March 8.
