FIT caught up with Heike Schnell, founder and creative director of Wellicious, the luxury yoga and Pilates brand that fuses form, function and style.
WHO IS THE WELLICIOUS WOMAN?
When I first started the company I wanted to create a range that was suitable and functional for people to wear to a yoga class, but then stylish enough to also wear out afterwards. As a mother of three, I completely understand the demands the modern-day woman can encounter. The strong, high-quality and stylish designs reflect and support women's lifestyles.
WHAT IS YOUR FASHION MANTRA?
Green. Stylish. Fair. As an eco-friendly brand, we really believe that looking after the environment we work in is key to the happiness of future generations, and we also love the fact our customers believe the same.
IF SOMEONE IS STARTING OUT WITH YOGA/PILATES, WHAT SHOULD THEY INVEST IN?
Our classic yoga pants are a must for beginners, especially as each season they are re-released in exciting new colours. The detail in the ankle cuff holds the pant down during practice and helps you to focus all of your attention solely on your pose. Another key piece would be our soft bra; it can be so easily combined with our pants for a perfect yoga starter kit.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PIECES?
They would have to be the soft bra or the Wellicious catsuit. Made from soft organic cotton, the catsuit can easily be dressed up for a smart work appearance, or it is also perfect for a quick change when practising in the studio. Its soft fabric and great support gives a practical-yet-stylish look.
WHAT ARE THE KEY TRENDS FOR SPRING?
Our new spring collection is subtly inspired by 80s dancewear with our shake-it pants and mesh tank top; forming a celebration of the age of strong and active women. We have also embraced the invigorating colours of spring.
