Few people aware of entitlement to free exam, say dentists

JUST a fraction of people entitled to a free exam under PRSI are availing of it, according to the Irish Dental Association.
While two million could have the exam free only 298,000 took it up in 2013, said the association's president Peter Gannon.
"New research shows that over half or 54pc of the two million people who are entitled to a free dental exam are not aware of it," he said. "This is not surprising given that it is the single remaining benefit of the PRSI scheme and one the Department of Health has never promoted in any way."
