Sponsored Feature: Specsavers launches new children’s writing competition

"He could not believe his eyes ....."

Aspiring young authors have a new opportunity to make their mark with the launch of a nationwide children’s writing competition by Specsavers.

As part of the eighth annual Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards, Specsavers is celebrating its sponsorship of the Irish Children's Book of the Year Category (Senior and Junior) by launching a nationwide children’s writing competition.

Inspired by a beautiful cartoon from a favourite fairy-tale, children from across the country are being challenged to create a short story in 500 words or less beginning with the sentence:

“'He could not believe his eyes...'”

The cartoon, which features a magical young boy who loves adventure and his sidekick; a mischievous fairy, provides plenty of fodder for the imagination.

The two winners will receive all the shortlisted titles in the ‘Specsavers Irish Children’s Book of the Year’ category from this year’s Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards and their school library will also receive a donation of some of the best Irish books from the last year.

The competition is open to all children and teenagers up to 16 years of age and the closing date is Friday 30 November 2012.
