Good eyesight is imperative to road safety and Specsavers in Ireland has made a renewed longstanding commitment to promote the importance of clear vision behind the wheel.
Specsavers’ Chairman in Ireland, Noel Meehan says “Our roads are busier than ever and poor vision presents a daily threat to the safety of millions of road users. Yet research is constantly reminding us that we are failing to meet even the minimum standards of vision for safe driving.”
Mr Meehan says “A surprising number of people who need vision correction for driving sometimes fail to wear their spectacles behind the wheel, opting to go without them or to wear non-prescription sunglasses instead. To stay safe, always wear prescription glasses or contact lenses when you drive”.
He continues: “Make sure you never substitute your prescription glasses for normal sunglasses. If you need to protect your eyes in bright sunshine, buy a pair of glasses with prescription lenses. If your eyes get tired – stop driving. It’s always sensible to take regular breaks when driving long distances.”
