Everyone’s favourite stylist Gok Wan recently brought a smile to the face of new mum Pamela Newman.
Pamela, originally from Ireland, recently suffered heartache at the passing of her mum. Family has always been important to Pamela, who recently gave birth to her daughter, so it was with a heavy heart that Pamela said goodbye to her mum just five weeks after giving birth. Pamela was in need of some TLC and some good news.
Pamela had entered Specsavers' style competition and to her delight she won. On hearing her story Gok and his Glam Squad got to work on Pamela. Gok wanted to build up Pam’s confidence for the transformation and give her a new look. In addition to her make over, Pam also won a fabulous pair of GW glasses designed by Gok. Speaking about her new frames, Pamela quite rightly pointed out that ‘You wouldn't wear a party dress without the perfect underwear, so it’s very important your glasses compliment your overall look’
Gok was keen to get Pam out of black – her normal default ‘smart’ colour so chose to style the raven-haired beauty in glasses with a mellow tortoiseshell colour, and a gentle half-cats eye, rather than the full sweeping look.
Now that her specs were sorted it was on to the party look. To create the wow factor, Gok chose a striking full length red dress. Cleverly the jersey fabric stretched and skimmed in all the right places with two layers of fabric meaning it flowed rather than clung, for a really elegant look.
The Glam Squad vamped up Pam’s makeup by taming any unruly lashes with brow wax, filling in eyebrows with a soft beige shadow rather than a harsh black arch and her almond eyes were set off by an artfully-drawn wing of eyeliner. To finish the look a base mascara with a glossy top coat made the most of Pam’s thick set of eyelashes. The showstopper was a red lipstick in a modern, matt finish – no teen lip gloss here.
Pamela’s hair was also trimmed by 2 inches to give it a healthy bounce and was styled with a large, round brush in glamorous waves. The result is flattering with enviable volume. Some fabulous jewels (high-street, costume jewels – but you’d barely know) and a huge confident smile topped it all off. Pamela had gotten her smile back.
