I'm writing this the morning after our City Series in Dublin's Phoenix Park, and the buzz still hasn't left me after yesterday's fantastic 5k and 10k events. Gorgeous spring weather, a great atmosphere, competitive spirit and a smoothly run event all contributed to a great morning out.
Almost 2,000 of our readers lined out, and we had some famous, fit faces in our midst; former cover star and MMA fighter Cathal Pendred had a very impressive time in the 5k (especially for somebody who doesn't even run as part of his training) and ran alongside his girlfriend, our Skechers ambassador Michele McGrath.
Broadcaster Matt Cooper, Síle Seoige, Clodagh McKenna, Brian Kennedy and the team from BodyByrne ran the 10k, and there were so many running clubs in attendance which was amazing to see.
But, for me, one man stood out: Rory O'Donoghue, from Kenmare, has muscular dystrophy, but completed the 5k alongside trainer Amanda Kelly. An amazing achievement and real proof that determination can result in personal triumph, whatever your circumstances.
See elsewhere for a race report, plus some lovely faces from the races, and check fitmagazine.ie for a video round-up and race times.
We're still looking to put together our first-time training diaries for 2014, so please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org if you're planning on undertaking your first big event this summer or autumn. It can be a half-marathon, full marathon, a 10k, triathlon or Ironman. We want to hear your stories, so please, do send them in!
