Welcome to this week's issue of FIT, in which we focus on some world champions across the realms of fitness. Cover star Samantha Briggs is CrossFit's fittest woman, and when Reebok brought her over to Dublin for some events at Life Style Sports, I knew we had to meet her.
CrossFit is growing in popularity, thanks to the sense of community and encouragement its facilities foster. It's definitely not a fitness flash in the pan, and it's something I expect to grow.
We also meet BMX champ Kelvin Batey, and former Kerry GAA player Sean O'Sullivan who followed his fitness dream to become a personal trainer and boot-camp instructor.
Daniel Davey takes us through what top athletes need to do to prepare for big events, something that applies both to huge games like this weekend's Dublin-Mayo All-Ireland clash, and the less championed events we all take part in.
The Dublin Marathon is fast approaching, and our October issues of FIT will be gearing towards the run in terms of nutrition, planning, motivation and more. If you've registered, make sure you don't miss out.
I'd also like to thank those of you who got in touch after last week's editorial, spurring me on in my own return to fitness. Your words and support mean a lot. I won't lie, I'm not back in my groove just yet – I'm in the middle of moving house – but once I'm settled, I'll be shooting for the stars. Googling fitness facilities near my new house counts for this week, right? And let's not forget all the heavy lifting.
Until next week . . .
