THE mother of a severely disabled girl has made an impassioned appeal to Health Minister James Reilly to reinstate her daughter's medical card so she can receive specialist palliative care.
The mother-of-two, who gave her name as Lydia on RTE's 'Liveline' programme, spoke of her devastation when she learnt that the card had been revoked for her eight-year-old daughter, Erin, who suffers from a multitude of ailments.
Erin, who takes 45 different medications a day and is on morphine, is unable to walk or talk.
"She's in chronic pain and under palliative care at the moment," explained her mother.
"Life is hard enough for Erin and we have enough worry... if they're going to take it off Erin, they're going to take it off everybody."
