I watch 'X Factor' just like the next person and get emotional when someone delivers a great performance, but this year more than ever there seems a sense of escapism among the contestants.
They believe that everything that is wrong in their lives will be instantly fixed if they make it through to the live shows.
All of their unhappiness will be solved and life will be great from there on.
This couldn't be further from reality. If you aren't content in the first place and happy in your skin, then no amount of attention, adulation, coverage or even money will help to change that.
There is a theory that fame and money will lead to happiness, but more and more we see that this isn't the case.
Think about it: how happy are you now reading this column? Do you feel comfortable in your own skin? If not, then why not?
What do you need to change? What aspects of your life would you change or what would you do differently to increase your happiness?
Become happy first and then everything else will build upon that happiness, not replace it.
