Broadcaster Aine Lawlor was one of a record breaking 1,600 patients who participated in cancer clinical trials in Ireland in 2013, according to All-Ireland Co-operative Oncology Research Group (ICORG), the country's leading cancer research group.
Now the journalist who was successfully treated for breast cancer is fronting a campaign to promote awareness of clinical trials in Ireland for the treatment of cancer.
Ireland has a clinical trial participation rate of 6pc, which is high internationally and puts the country in the top quartile globally, but ICORG is seeking to increase this number.
As part of International Clinical Trials Day, which is celebrated annually on May 20 around the world, ICORG has announced the launch of its first ever annual campaign to promote awareness of the availability of cancer clinical trials in Ireland.
ICORG (www.icorg.ie) is an independent research charity which receives core support from the Health Research Board and the Irish Cancer Society.
Ms Lawlor has also launched this short video as part of the new campaign.
