There is something really nice about eating outdoors in good weather -- everything tastes better al fresco. Since the school holidays, Catherine, the children and I have eaten most of our meals out on the decking; we can just sit there (sometimes with a glass of vino) and relax as the children play around the garden.
Picnics seem to have become almost outdated or old fashioned, but we love them.
We often prepare a picnic and take it with us to the nearby Duncannon beach, Co Waterford, and spend a happy afternoon there.
It's nice having the whole family helping to prepare a picnic -- in our house, everyone has their own particular job in order to get ready for an afternoon by the seaside.
So when the weather is good, I encourage you to whip up my simple summer picnic and get out to eat it.
The winter will be long enough, so now is the time to build up happy family memories. Enjoy!
