Tweet Pie, 'the world's shortest recipe book'
A Twitter recipe book shows how to make 50 meals - each in fewer than 140 characters.
The Tweet Pie recipe - or, inevitably, "twecipe" - book contains meals suggested by Twitter users. Subtitled "The World's Shortest Recipe Book", it contains 140-character instructions for starters, main meals, desserts, drinks, and snacks.
The recipes were crowdsourced on the social networking site, with more than 200 recipes submitted.
A recipe book containing fewer than 7,000 characters would be rather short, so the book limits its recipes to one a page - otherwise it would take up around one side of A4 paper.
Its creators flesh it out further with illustrations, also provided by Twitter users, and recipes from actual chefs, including Brian Turner, Edd Kimber and Craig Dugas.
The book was inspired by a survey this year which found Delia Smith to be the wordiest of Britain's celebrity chefs. The cooker manufacturer Belling, which is promoting the Tweet Pie book, looked at the 10 best-selling celebrity cookbooks, and found that Smith took 872 words to describe how to make a roast beef dish. Nigella Lawson with 787 and Jamie Oliver with 773 made up the rest of the top three. Victorian cooks clearly preferred brevity: Mrs Beeton used just 156 words to make a roast.
The proceeds from the sales of the book will go to the food charity FoodCycle, and the book is on sale on FoodCycle's eBay page.
