As restaurants around the country realise that customers do still want to wine and dine, but they just don't want to be overcharged for the privilege, Lucinda O'Sullivan gets back on the bargain trail to hunt out the best deals

My recent article on bargains and value menus in Dublin restaurants certainly seems to have stirred many other restaurants and hotels into action -- I have been inundated with emails from restaurants around the country offering some really good value.
I've outlined details of the best below. The feedback from you has been amazing, too. Please keep emailing me with details of the restaurants you find offering great value.
In Kilkenny, at chef Garrett Byrne's relatively new restaurant, Campagne on Gashouse Lane, there is a two/three-course prix-fixe menu at €24/€28, offering rustic dishes such as terrine of goose with apple marmalade, accompanied by walnut and raisin toast, followed by mains of daube of Hereford beef or navarin of lamb. It is available Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday 6-7pm, and also serves as their lunch menu on Fridays and Sundays.
Langton's is one of the best known names in Kilkenny dining. It has an excellent offer of €65pps for one night's bed and breakfast and a four-course dinner.
In Waterford, at La Boheme, a French restaurant on George's Street, there is a table d'hote menu, Tuesday to Friday, 5.30-7pm, at €29. A more elaborate menu at €35 is available all evening, Tuesday to Friday, and on Saturdays, 5pm-7pm.
At the conservatory-style Zak's restaurant, in the boutique Athenaeum Hotel overlooking Waterford Harbour, there is a generous three-course table d'hote menu at €29.
Over in Dungarvan, at Paul Flynn's Tannery Restaurant, there is an early-bird menu, Tuesday to Friday, 6-7.30pm, at €30. The Tannery also has a special Friday lunch offer of a main course with a glass of wine at €15, or two courses with a glass of wine at €22.
In Cork city, at the chic Les Gourmandises restaurant in Cook Street, there is a two-course Market Menu at €23.50, or €28.50 for three courses. It is available Tuesday toThursday, from 6-9.30pm, and Friday and Saturday 6pm-7pm.
In Club Brasserie, on Lapp's Quay, there are some light main courses for dinner under €15, such as a chicken, mushroom and bacon crepe with rustic potatoes and green salad. There is a sirloin steak at €21.95.
At Fenn's Quay Restaurant on Sheares Street, there's an excellent two/three course early-dinner menu (€22.50/€27.50), available Monday to Friday 6-7.30pm, and on Saturdays, 6-7pm. Greene's Restaurant at Hotel Isaacs has an early-bird menu from 6-7pm at €28.
At Jacob's on the Mall there is an early-bird menu Monday to Friday, 6-7.30pm, offering two or three courses at €24 or €29, while at Augustine's on Washington Street there is a new four-course Market Menu at €35, running Tuesday to Friday, 6-9.30pm.
In Clonakilty at Richy's Bar and Bistro, on Wolfe Tone Street, Richy Virahsawmy has a great offer from Sunday to Friday of a three-course set menu and a bottle of house wine at €50 per couple. Also, once a month, a group of diners goes into the kitchen to prepare a three-course dinner, at the end of which the group sits down to eat, drinking wines to match the foods. It costs €60pp and the next two cooking evenings are this Tuesday and May 27.
The Blue Haven Hotel in Kinsale is doing a two/three course menu in the bar and bistro at €21.95/€24.95. At €80 you get one b&b for two, midweek, or there's also a midweek, two-day special at €99pps including one dinner.
In Rosslare, Co Wexford, La Marine Bistro at Kelly's Resort Hotel has an early-bird menu, Sunday to Friday, from 6.30-7.30pm, at €20 including a glass of wine. It also offers a three-course dinner on Friday nights at €35, including wines with each course. Monart Spa near Enniscorthy has a midweek b&b rate of €95pps, or two nights b&b at €185pps on selected dates. There are two dining options at Monart and the rate allows you unlimited access to their thermal spa.
The five-star Park Hotel in Kenmare, Co Kerry, has reduced the price of its excellent four-course dinner from €76 to €68, or you can have a two-course dinner at €55. It has a terrific value offer of a two-nights b&b and one dinner, with the third night B&B complimentary, at €345pps.
In Killarney, the Lake Room Restaurant in Aghadoe Heights Hotel has introduced a casual-dining menu as an alternative to its a la carte, a combination of its bar and restaurant menu with dishes such as roast fillet of cod accompanied by pea and mint risotto and saffron creme fraiche at €20.
In Limerick, in both the Oyster Restaurant and the Loft Restaurant at Durty
Nelly's, there are new four-course early-bird menus, available from 5.30-8pm, at €50 for two people, including a bottle of wine.
The River Bistro on George's Quay has a four-course menu with a glass of wine at €35 per head, Tuesday to Friday.
The g Hotel in Galway has dinner and a movie for €29.50, Sunday to Thursday, which includes a two-course meal in one of its signature lounges followed by a movie of your choice at the adjacent multi-screen Eye cinema.
At Mount Falcon in Ballina, Co Mayo, the table d'hote menu has been reduced to €49. It also does a fab afternoon tea at €16 for one, or €28 for two people. And it offers two nights b&b and one dinner, along with a spot of complimentary wild Atlantic salmon-fishing until the end of May, for €159pps.
Harvey's Point in Donegal is a great destination. This year is its 20th anniversary, so you can enjoy two midweek nights with one gourmet dinner for €199pps, and a third night with their compliments. Its carvery Sunday lunches are legendary, at €32 per adult and €16 per child.
Nearby, Castle Murray House Hotel and Restaurant at St John's Point at Dunkineely, which has terrific seafood as well as views, is offering, Sunday to Friday, a dinner and b&b special until the end of May at €100pps.
Finally, in Mash at the Osprey Hotel in Naas, Co Kildare, there is a substantial two/three course early-bird menu at €27.50/€32.50, available Monday to Thursday, 6-7.30pm.
