Since 2004 when accountant brothers Cormac and Ciaran Fitzgerald took over this gorgeous Kinsale boutique hotel, The Blue Haven has been a heaven-sent boon to the Cork town's foodie reputation.
The charming, old-world 17-room hotel located in the heart of Kinsale, within 30 minutes' drive from Cork, originally employed fewer than 30 staff when the Fitzgerald brothers came up with their recession-busting plan to expand in 2009. While the rest of the country was cutting back, the brothers realised that once the hotel had retired for the night the large commercial kitchen that had already established a reputation for quality and innovation was lying idle for the next 12 hours. By night they began producing mouth-watering, restaurant meals to take home, and developed a delicious range of seafood dishes for which they are particularly renowned. Since then, the Blue Haven Food Company have picked up countless industry awards, including Best Fish Dish in Ireland and an SFA National Small Business Award for Innovation.
