There is nothing nicer than having a romantic dinner à deux at home, and the secret to a great night is lots of prep beforehand and choosing a stress-free menu.

I decided to start mine with a stirred cocktail, as opposed to others which are blitzed with ice. It's a really simple apple martini -- and it's really strong!

The seared-beef crostini are perfect finger food for hungry guests and never fail to impress. You may want to double the recipe as they always go down really well.

Toast the pine nuts in a dry frying pan over a high heat -- they crisp up really quickly so keep an eye on them and make sure they don't burn.

I created the simple but, let me tell you, highly impressive little shellfish dish for a romantic New Year's Eve dinner a few years back, and it went down a storm.

If you haven't cooked shellfish before, don't be afraid to be adventurous. This is a great first-time dish and it uses the more familiar flavours of garlic, chilli and lemon.

You can use any shellfish you want, so feel free to experiment and don't panic if you can't get them all.

Have a great Valentine's.
