Our teachers used to say of teenage school romance: "Familiarity breeds contempt." No doubt they would have approved of measures in China to stop the flow of raging adolescent hormones.
The Times Educational Supplement reports that eyes may meet across a crowded classroom, but pupils in some Chinese schools are being forced to stay over half a metre away from the opposite sex at all times.
Not everybody is taking these strictures lying down, so to speak. China Youth Daily newspaper branded the measures "absurd, ridiculous and illegal".
Here in the Whiteboard Jungle we tend to agree. What could be more educational than an awkward teenage romance?
