THE deadline for CAO Change of Mind applications is 5.15pm today.
About 40,000 students were expected submit a revised list of CAO choices, with a late surge after the Leaving Certificate exams ended.
That represents more than half the 76,500 CAO applicants this year.
The reasons for changing choices varies, but applicants are advised not to be influenced by how they think they did in the exams and a belief that they will not get the points for their top preferences.
School-leavers are told to focus on third-level courses in which they have a genuine interest, because that is where they have the best chance of doing well.
This year has seen a continuing upward trend in first preferences in areas such as science, engineering, computing and agriculture, while construction-related programmes and teaching have suffered a dip in interest.
CAO first round offers will be made on Monday August 19.
