AS receptions go, the welcome afforded to Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe at yesterday's teacher conferences was distinctly on the icy side.
On his first round of the annual Easter conferences, Mr O'Keeffe felt the full force of anger from members of the INTO and the ASTI.
A number of members of both unions staged a walk-out in protest over education cutbacks when Mr O'Keeffe arrived, while INTO delegates refused to applaud the minister and held banners aloft.
And the prospect of widespread industrial action in both primary and secondary schools moved a step closer as teachers protested over the Government's handling of the economic crisis.
