Plan for new DIT site in Tallaght shot down by TUI
AN Bord Snip's proposal to move Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) to Tallaght has been dismissed as "blatantly flawed".
There would not be enough space for DIT's 34 separate locations, along with Blanchardstown and Tallaght IT, on the site, it was claimed last night.
Annette Dolan, deputy general secretary of the Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) said it made no sense.
Ms Dolan said the third-level cuts would "destroy the economic engine for a few drops of oil".
Meanwhile, the Irish language education organisation COGG said the Bord Snip report demonstrated a lack of understanding.
Bord Snip recommended that COGG, which provides Irish teaching support services, be absorbed into the Department of Education to save €1.2m.
"A huge blow will be dealt to the Irish language if the recommendations are implemented," said its chairman, Breandan Mac Cormaic.
