HUNDREDS of this year's Leaving Certificate students can expect late college offers as exam chiefs release the results of this year's re-checks.
The State Examinations Commission (SEC) has upgraded the results of 1,637 individual papers after students sought an appeal of their original marks.
Details are also sent to the CAO, which will make new college offers as required, and students can expect to receive them by Friday. Candidates will receive the results of their appeals today either through their school or through the online examination results service on www.examinations.ie.
A total of 8,192 candidates appealed 9,100 grades in individual papers. Successful appeals amounted to 0.46pc of all 370,491 grades awarded to 55,572 candidates in the Leaving Cert exam. There were three results downgraded.
The appeals usually lead to a couple of hundred new college offers – but while entitled to take up a place this year, candidates have to decide whether it is in their best interests, as the college year is well under way.
