Butter wouldn't have melted in her mouth, so it is not surprising Karen Koster was a real teacher's pet. But one of her TV3 colleagues found out to his detriment that it was unwise to have a war of words with the Xposé beauty despite her Goodie Two-Shoes reputation back in her schooldays.
So, were you a super-cool cailín or a plain old nerd back in school?
I was a nerd with a capital 'N'! But an unabashed one at that.
Yikes! So, where exactly did this Little Goodie Two-Shoes go to school?
All the way from the age of four to 18, I went to St Joseph of Cluny in Killiney, Co Dublin.
Just a stone's throw from Bono's gaff. Not that I'd be throwing stones at his house. Well, at least not after the restraining order...
Being a nerd did not mean I was ostracised or anything like that. It was just that my older sister was the one smoking behind the bike sheds, so I probably just wanted to be different.
Was there a teacher who made a big impression on you?
It is kind of embarrassing! I used to always get slagged off for being the English teacher's pet. But Mr Byrne really helped me believe in myself and pushed me towards the debating team when I thought I would have been way too shy to do it.
It sounds like your parents, unlike mine, never waited in dread of parent-teacher meetings?
Well, my mum used to love them because she knew it would be a lovely morning where teachers would tell her how delighted they were with her daughter [laughs].
Were you always such a diligent student?
When I went to study English Literature and French at Trinity College I went off the rails for a little while.
So any skeletons in the closet?
We were the Kylie and Jason generation. So it was all Home & Away, Neighbours and Peter André.
Well, we all have our embarrassing school memories, but do you have any funny ones?
I remember being at a TV3 Christmas party and Brian O'Donovan, our finance correspondent came over to me and said I had beaten him in a debating competition when we were in school. I had no idea it had been him but I joked that TV3's beauty and fashion correspondent had beaten him. And she could do it again [laughs]!
