PRIMARY and post-primary pupils now have free access to the online edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica in their own homes.
Education Minister Ruairi Quinn announced an expansion of the service, which has been available in schools for the past three years.
Britannica Online School Edition is designed for all levels of learning.
It has four age-specific learning areas, all designed to build confidence and inspire continuous discovery.
Mr Quinn said having access to Britannica Online at home would encourage students to continue the process of learning at home, and at their own pace
Students can log on to Britannica remotely via scoilnet.ie.
