Dolly role going down a Storm . . .

She considers herself more a singer than an actress and the West End's Rebecca Storm (pictured) admits she's "terrified" to take on Barbra Streisand's famous Hello, Dolly! role in Dublin's Gaiety Theatre.

Rebecca, whose real name is Elizabeth Hewlett, will play Dolly in the show, staged by the Rathgar and Rathmines Musical Society as part of their centenary celebrations.

She's perhaps best known for her 1985 hit single 'The Show', and Rebecca told The Diary that stepping into Streisand's shoes is one the biggest challenges for any female performer.

She's hoping she won't disappoint.

"I know the songs well and I've done a bit of acting, but a lot of people know me as Mrs Johnstone, [in Blood Brothers]. Dolly is so different.

"I'm terrified. It's a bit daunting, to be honest," she said.

Rebecca, who lives in Naas, Co Kildare, "never thought" she'd get the opportunity to play Dolly.

"You don't see big ensemble productions any more; it's so costly." Hello, Dolly opens on April 14 for a 12-show run.
