RYAN Tubridy has gamely agreed to keep up his tradition of pulling on a ridiculous 'Bridget Jones'-style jumper for the 'Toy Show' special.
The festive sweater, immortalised by Colin Firth's character Mark Darcy in the 'Bridget Jones' films, has now become a Yuletide fashion craze.
The 'Late Late Show' host modelled three hideously patterned sweaters yesterday to allow listeners to his radio show choose for the most-watched 'Late Late Show' of the year.
He said: "They are grotesque jumpers and we love them so much. The jumpers have arrived. I tried on a few of them in the office and I'll wear the most disgusting one. I think the one I will wear on the night is nearly the worst in its bestness."
Listeners can vote for a selection of pullovers modelled by the radio presenter on his Facebook page. Photos include a 'Bad Santa' creation and a white and red Christmas tree-emblazoned jumper, but he has a whole box of Christmas knits to choose from for the November 30 show. He said: "Our friends from Funky Christmas Jumpers are like my personal jumper elves."
The co-owner of Funky Christmas Jumpers, Fabio Lolle, said the RTE star has sparked a craze for their comical knitwear.
He said: "When Ryan Tubridy wore the jumper first in 2010 we got a lot of demand in for that particular jumper. We get ideas throughout the year and this year is the first year we have opened up a shop on South William Street, (Dublin)."
Tubridy told the Irish Independent that rehearsals for this year's 'Toy Show' are going full steam ahead.
"At the moment we're working on the opening. I can't reveal the theme yet, but the kids will be happy, I know that for certain."
