Families dip into savings to pay for Christmas

ONE in three people is expected to dip into their savings to pay for the Christmas celebrations.

And one in 10 people are so strapped they will be forced to finance the festive season by using their credit card, a KBC Bank survey has found.

But most people plan to use the money in their current account to pay for presents, socialising and food and drink.

Only 5pc will take out a loan to pay for an average spend of €600 each.

People in Dublin will spend more than those in other parts of the country, with an outlay of €668.
