Celebrities' best chat-up lines

Tuesday September 22 2009

Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it, but when it comes to falling in love how do celebrities fare in the chat- up stakes?

Ann Robinson revealed that clever chat-up lines can even penetrate her ice maiden exterior. She claims she was offered a political role by the Conservative MP Alan Clark over dinner but quickly realised the motives behind the proposition.

"It was a fabulously clever line," says the famous television host.

"It was no use saying to me, 'You're fabulously beautiful, come to bed.' But if you could appeal to my vanity and my having a brain as well..."

However, when it comes to the chat-up lines of the rich and famous they can be just as duff as the ones you'd hear down your local.

"In England we have a vegetable called a swede," offered an embarrassed Hugh Grant when unsuccessfully chatting up a group of stunning Swedish girls.

Posh Spice showed a little more balls when she said to David Beckham after the first they met: "If you don't ring me, I'm going to kick you in the b******s the next time I see you." Charming. However, Peaches Geldof keeps it simple and to the point: "Hi, my name is Peaches."
