Sinn Féin’s Aengus O’Snodaigh will go down in history as the first man to put the word ‘amazeballs’ in the Dáil record.
Or at least he tried.
TDs had an impromptu class on slang today as the Dublin TD joined in on a debate on the Social Welfare and Pensions Bill 2013.
“Well, it’s certainly not amazey-balls,” he told a handful of deputies.
“Amazey-balls, I think is the new term in the southside”, he explained, “It’s a new terminology for fantastic or brilliant.”
An amused Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton replied, “Sorry, we’re all north-siders”.
Chairman Bernard Durkan intervened, saying the terminology was not known to him.
“The rest of us might like to understand what’s going on as well. The terminology is not known to us,” he said.
“It means fantastic,” Ó Snodaigh attempted to explain to the bewildered TDs before the discussion ended.
