IT IS a Rose of Tralee first, a marriage proposal on stage - and she said 'yes'.
New Orleans Rose Molly Molloy Gamble agreed to marry boyfriend Kyle Catlett live on stage at The Dome in Tralee.
In front of a packed Dome and before an estimated half a million viewers at home - not to mention the hundreds of thousands who tuned in on the internet - brave Kyle got down on one knee and asked the 23-year-old University of Alabama graduate to marry him.
And the expression on Molly Molloy's face proved she had no idea it was coming.
"No, no, no," said Molly Molloy in a moment of utter shock, before eventually clarifying she had actually said 'yes' to the crucial question.
The proposal is unprecedented in the Rose of Tralee's 54-year history, although the festival has spawned many a romance.
It was during the Rose of Tralee in 2008 that Daithi O Se first set eyes on New Jersey Rose Rita Talty, who became his wife in 2012.
All day the Kerryman has been sworn to secrecy so as not to ruin the surprise for southern belle Molly, who only recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
The couple have known each other for over a year and met while in college.
They spent their first date in a hospital accident and emergency unit. Kyle had broken his leg on a mechanical bull and asked Molly to drive him to the hospital.
But he was lucky to get a second date. He was in so much pain he barely spoke to Molly as they waited.
The engagement ring he chose for the proposal was bought in the same jewellers that his dad had bought his mother's ring.
