A woman who won a trip to Australia on the 'Ellen' show has lost her husband after tragedy struck while skydiving as part of the trip.
Gunnery Sgt. Brandon McGraw went on a trip to Australia last week with his wife Cherilyn McGraw, who won the trip on the Ellen show last January.
The couple went skydiving during the trip when tragedy struck.
An experienced skydiver, Brandon jumped solo while his wife completed a tandem jump with an instructor. During the jump, Brandon's parachute experienced a malfunction 300 feet in the air, and he was jerked to the side before crashing to the ground, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cherilyn, who is still in Australia, posted two pictures from the plane of a smiling, happy Brandon pre-jump, with the caption:
"My hero. My angel. These are truly such symbolic photos. He was happy and doing what he loved. It's amazing all that photos can capture in a moments time. The last 2 photos taken. I love you more than anything in the world, honey. You are the most amazing man."
She took to her Facebook twenty-three hours ago to update her friends and thank them for their support.
"I just want to say that this stupid Facebook has been my saving grace this week. I'm beyond honored and words will never be able to express my gratitude for all the love, support and prayers. You all have kept me SO strong."
Cherilyn confirmed that she would not be sharing when she can return to America with her husband, saying only "we cannot wait to get home".
