Irish Twitter users were amused last night by a picture of Stoke City player Stephen Ireland with the number 32 on his jersey.
Twitter user Barry McGolgan tweeted a picture of Ireland in a number 32 jersey, jokingly linking the jersey to the nationalist campaign by adding "The awkward moment Stoke City realise they've joined the campaign for Irish unity".
The photo received over 163 retweets and 66 favourites so far since it was posted last night at 11pm.
Cork native Ireland joined Stoke City in September on loan for the 2013-2014 season.
Ireland played International football with the Irish team before differences with then-coach Steve Stauntion. He made his professional debut in 2005 and has played for teams Man City, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
