'The Irish hero' Sergeant O'Leary V.C. returns home
Sergeant Michael John O'Leary, from Macroom, Co Cork, with fellow wounded Irishmen on a podium in London after he returned home in July 1915, above.
O'Leary later received a Victoria Cross for single-handedly storming two German barricades in the French village of Cuinchy during World War I. His face and name were used in a recruitment drive in 1915.
