Triona McCarthy's lip trick
This week, our mouthy make-up maven is talking lips and lashes, beauty-boosting treatments and brush-making DIY.
Sorry! I can't hear you. Your lipstick is too loud! Ha ha ha! This is what Will always says to me if I'm wearing a really loud lipstick, which is often, as lipstick is really having a moment. Every single beauty brand has increased its selection of lipsticks. It makes sense - a new lipstick is a relatively inexpensive treat to refresh your whole look.
Tom Ford's Lip Contour Duo, above, €49, is the biz. One end, below right, is a full-on lipstick, which is hidden in the container, while the other end, left, has a lip pencil to line, define and fill your lips. It's in a slightly lighter hue than the lipstick shade, so, as it wears off, it doesn't leave a 1990s-style ring around the mouth!
Giorgio Armani Beauty Lip Magnet lippies, below, €32, are also pretty amazing. I adore the intense colour concentration, the weightless sensation, and the long-lasting matte effect.
Now, if you worry about your lipstick bleeding or migrating across your face, espesh when you're wearing a loud lippie, then you need Ultimate Ozone Multipurpose Primer Pencil, €19, Urban Decay. This magic wand lightly lines your lips before you apply lippie. It can also be used to clean up messy lines along the way. It even makes your lipstick extra long-lasting if you apply it to all of your lips before painting them.
Top tip: It's an oldie but a goldie. To stop lipstick getting on your teeth, stick your finger in your mouth and pull it out slowly, with your lips pursed around it, so any lipstick residue clings to your finger.
On a night away recently, I flipping forgot half my make-up brushes, so I had to do a bit of DIY. I ended up fashioning my blush brush into a contour brush. Seriously! I basically splayed the bristles into the flat shape it needed to be to contour and used two kirby grips, one on each side, to hold them in place and, guess what? It flippin worked!
I love a look round Liberty when I'm in London, for, em research purposes of course! Just as well, or I'd never have found these Better You Magnesium Flakes, €12.99.
Quite often, due to our stressful lives, we are deficient in magnesium, so these flakes, which you pop in the bath, are a great way of helping get magnesium back into the body, as it's easily absorbed though the skin. Before bed, a bath with these also helps to promote restful sleep.
Top Tip: No bath, no prob, just pop a handful of flakes in a basin of hot water for a quick foot soak.
On another, eh, research expedition into town, I found the flakes in Holland & Barrett, so there's no need to go online, they're available in Ireland.
So, Will, my unoffish accountant, if you're reading, I know so many important things, through my love of shopping . . . I mean working!
Kate Hudson, above, manages to look airbrushed, like, all the time! And, trust me, she looks this way in person, too. She doesn't look 'done', if you know what I mean. I reckon she's a fan of IPL (intense pulsed light) - many actresses swear by it to look good, as it helps boost collagen naturally.
The Youth Booster skin package at River Medical works to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin and helps achieve tighter, brighter, rejuvenated-looking skin. Triona's most wanted
I'm a multi-tasking, face-masking, hand-grasping mum! Once the kids are in bed, Will and I love nothing better than some Netflix action on the couch. Oh yeah! A little less conversation, a little more box-set action, please. Am I officially old now?
Anyhoo, right now, we're binging on The Good Wife. Yes, I know I'm late to the party with it, but I was too busy out on the town, shaking it all about, when everyone else was watching.
Back to my multi-tasking. Once a week, I'll pop on a sheet mask, but for an added boost - here's my top tip - I use a serum beforehand. The mask literally seals in the serum, and that way the active ingredients penetrate deeper into the skin.
Right now, I'm using Omorovicza Instant Perfection Serum, above, €95, from Space NK. It's full of encapsulated hyaluronic acid, which they claim absorbs deeper into the epidermis for long-lasting hydration, plumping up fine lines and wrinkles while reducing pores. And yes, I wear it watching tv, holding Will's hand. Aaaaw!
The Sosu Luxury Lashes in Sue, above, €19.95, are possibly the most dramatic lashes I've tried.
The range, by super successful Irish blogger Suzanne Jackson, has lots of other styles to choose from, but these are my favourite, and I reckon I'll be rockin 'em for the entire festive season as, get this, they are reusable!
They can be used up to 20 times! So yeah, I'll be, eh, on the lash with these lashes, looking like a lasher!
