Faye O'Rourke of Little Green Cars reveals the band's hangouts in Los Angeles, a home from home on US tours.
Why Los Angeles?
We tour a lot in the US. I'm picking Los Angeles as the more and more I visit, the more I feel at home there. I think as a US city it's often misunderstood. It's very spread out, almost like a series of different villages. Weather is always incredible and there is so much history there with music and film.
What should I pack?
Weather is always great and never really feels too hot as it's right by the ocean. You can pack light, you'll never really need a jacket or sweater.
First thing I should do?
Because I'm always there when we're on tour and always exhausted when I arrive, I like to go to Blue Bottle coffee on Beverly (bluebottlecoffee.com), followed by a walk across the street to Beverly Hills juice (beverlyhillsjuice.com).
This is LA's first organic juice bar, and has been there since the 70's. I love their Banana Mana, where you pick a juice (Carrot and Coconut) and they blend it with frozen banana and almond. It's like a healthy milk shake and tastes incredible.
Best place to stay?
I love the Beverly Laurel Motel (beverlylaurelmotorhotel.com) on Beverly. It's a recently renovated motel on Beverly with a beautiful pool. It's also got a pretty good diner attached and lots of cool places are within walking distance.
Best food and drinks?
So much good food in LA, and so much variety. I really love Chunju Han-il Kwan on 6th and Kenmote for authentic Korean food in Koreatown. Order any of the fish and you won't go wrong... I also love the pork kimchi.
Another favourite is Take Sushi on 8866 W Sunset beside the Viper Room. It's a tiny little place, but they do the best lobster rolls. For a drink check out the Dime Bar at 442 N. Fairfax - it's a proper old school LA dive bar with a Jukebox.
What should I avoid?
LA is very spread out, so be prepared. Rent a car, and explore, walking isn't really an option. Be prepared for traffic anywhere, anytime!
What should I bring home?
Go to Book Soup (booksoup.com) on Sunset and you will find something unique. You could spend a day in there checking out books.
They have absolutely everything.
Little Green Cars play Galway on May 12, Limerick on May 13, Cork on May 14 and Dublin's Iveagh Gardens on July 23. See littlegreencars.com for more.
