TRAVEL TV: The secret to a great hotel stay - and it's not the star rating
Pól Ó Conghaile asks Ireland's top reviewers what makes a great place to stay... and it has surprisingly little to do with star ratings.
What truly sets a great hotel or guesthouse apart?
What wins it awards... or perhaps more importantly, a place in your heart?
We decided to find out by inviting three of the most influential food and hospitality reviewers in the land onto TRAVEL TV - Georgina Campell, John McKenna of McKennas' Guides, and the AA's Hotel Inspector (protecting his identity, of course).
The results are surprising - and five minutes of must-see TV for anyone in the industry, or who simply values hotels that nail the difference between good and great.
Consistency matters. As does a drive to continually improve. But just as important are the little details... the fresh flowers, the friendly face, the working Wi-Fi and the receptionist who doesn't completely blank you on arrival (it happens way too often, believe us).
Surprisingly too, none of our reviewers' top hotels are five-stars.
