Reader Travel Awards judges John and Francis Brennan share their top tips for improving your business in 2017.

1. Good photography is essential

Not only of your business but of key attractions in your locality for website, social media and print. Never scrimp on good photography.

2. Help guests to get there

Ensure you have proximity to local airports and ferry in miles, km and time on all promotional materials.

3. Sell local experiences

Ensure you and your team have visited all local attractions so you can sell the area. Embrace marketing initiatives such as the Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s Ancient East. Also invite all local tourism providers to sample your product to encourage cross selling.

4. Get social

Embrace social media to keep in contact with previous guests and attract new visitors. It’s vital.

5. It's the little things that count

Talk to your guests. Offer the cup of tea. Tell them about the local football match... they will remember all small gestures.

6. Hit the road

If you have the opportunity to travel nationally or internationally to view product offerings similar to your own, do so! You learn something to enhance your business everywhere you roam.
