WOW air has announced one-way flights from Ireland to the US from €65 as it celebrates five years in business.

The offer is available on flights to LA, Miami, San Francisco, New York, Pittsburgh, Montreal and Toronto, and includes taxes and charges.

The low fares undercut low-cost transatlantic rival Norwegian, which launches direct flights from Dublin, Cork and Shannon to the US from July 1.

Norwegian last week released 6,000 seats on the routes, to Boston Providence and New York Stewart International, from €99 each-way.

WOW's sale fares have set the bar even lower, but its flights are not direct - involving at least a 90-minute stopover in Reykjavik, Iceland.

The fares are available online (wowair.ie) from Dublin and Cork from today, and are valid for travel throughout June, the Icelandic carrier says.

They come as Dublin Airport prepares for its busiest-ever summer, with over 1.3 million seats added across its route network - up 6pc increase on last year.

WOW was founded in 2011, and now offers up to 10 direct flights a week between Ireland and Iceland, among a route network of 32 destinations.
