A number of flights to and from Heathrow Airport may have to be delayed or cancelled this afternoon as heavy thunderstorms sweep Britain.
Heathrow Airport has told airlines to cancel one in five flights during a two-hour period this afternoon as the UK faces further heavy storms and lightening.
The Aer Lingus flight scheduled to depart Dublin at 2.35pm today has been cancelled as well as a British Airways flight which would have left Dublin at 7.20pm for Heathrow.
Torrential downpours, lightening, hailstones and strong winds are causing chaos for aeroplanes in Britain.
Between 4pm and 6pm this afternoon, roughly 20 flights are expected to be cancelled to destinations including Dublin, Madrid and Prague.
A statement on the airport's website warned passengers that some flights “may be subject to delays and cancellations” due to thunderstorms.
They also advised anyone travelling today to check with their airline before coming to the airport.
