Ryanair is to begin a new, twice-weekly flight from Shannon Airport to Barcelona Reus from March 2018, it has announced.

The service will run Tuesdays and Saturdays from March 27 to October 27.

Reus Airport is around 106km southwest of Barcelona, a journey that takes around 90 minutes by bus, train or taxi.

The airport is also the gateway for the Costa Dorada, the Spanish hotspots of Salou, Sitges and Cambrils, and PortAventura World (15 minutes away), however.

PortAventura launched Ferrari World this April, a new theme park boasting Europe's tallest (112m) and fastest (0-180kmph in five seconds) rollercoaster.

Ryanair will operate 15 services from Shannon next summer, and expects to carry 20,000 passengers on the route, the airport has said.

"This is another welcome boost for Shannon and the region and we look forward to working with them to ensure our passengers take absolute advantage of this exciting offering,” said Declan Power, Head of Aviation Development at Shannon Airport.

The route is now on sale on ryanair.com.

Ryanair has also announced a seat sale from Shannon, with fares from €16.99 for travel in October and November, available for booking until midnight Friday (Sept. 15).
