The Wild Atlantic Way is coming to an app store near you, with Fáilte Ireland and its creative agency today launching the "Official" app for Ireland's 2,500km coastal trail.

The app claims to be the definitive guide to the world’s longest defined coastal touring route.

The Wild Atlantic Way stretches 2,500km from Inishowen, Co. Donegal, to Kinsale, Co. Cork. Since launching this April, it is believed to have played a significant role in boosting tourism numbers - up 10% for the first half of the year.

Key features of the app include:

  • Exclusive information on 15 Signature Discovery Points
  • Additional information on 160 Discovery Points
  • A list of Hidden Gems, shared by locals
  • Constantly updated information, from local events to great places to eat
  • Available for both IOS and Android mobile devices

The app (selected screengrabs above) is designed to work offline, so there's is no need for a live data connection to use it - a feature that will no doubt come in handy in remote locations along the coast in Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Kerry and Cork.

It was developed by Fáilte Ireland's digital partner, In the Company of Huskies, a Dublin-based creative agency working with the national tourism development authority in building a digital strategy to grow overseas visitor numbers.

"We believe the app will be an invaluable tool for both overseas visitors to Ireland and the domestic market alike," said Orla Carroll, Head of Digital at Fáilte Ireland.

The app is now available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
