Qatar Airways, which begins direct flights from Dublin to Doha next month, is offering free luxury stays for Irish passengers on stopovers.

In partnership with the Qatar Tourism Authority, the +Qatar initiative aims to encourage more visitors with free four and five-star hotel stays.

The "holiday-within-a-holiday" is aimed at transiting passengers, and is available to customers flying both business and economy class.

Daily flights from Dublin to Doha begin on June 12, linking Irish passengers in with a network of some 150 destinations ranging from Australia to South Africa.

The route is Ireland’s first ever direct air link to Qatar.

The stopover package offers transit passengers from Dublin, London Heathrow, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh the option to break their journey in Doha with free transit visas and one-night stays in four and five-star hotels.

A second night can be added for a $50 booking fee.

Available hotels include The Four Seasons, Marriott Marquis, Radisson Blu and Oryx Rotana, and the free transit visa is available for five to 96 hours.

To avail of the offer, book your flights on the dedicated page at, select ‘multi-city’ and choose the hotel when you receive a flight confirmation.

Additional stopover packages are offered by Discover Qatar.

Qatar Tourism Authority launched its transit visa last November, and has since recorded a 53pc year-on-year increase in stopovers this March.

Some 30 million passengers pass through Hamad International every year.
