Ashford Castle has finally unveiled its lavish new spa and pool, completing a two-year refurbishment of the castle.
$75 million has been poured into the five-star hotel since it was acquired by the Tollman family for its Red Carnation collection in 2013.
Refurbishments and enhancements include a 32-seat cinema, the replacement of all 820 windows and extensive room works - including those which hosted John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara during the filming of The Quiet Man in 1951.
The Spa at Ashford Castle is the final piece of the puzzle, including an indoor pool housed in a new bronze conservatory designed by French architect Phillipe Bonino.
Five treatment rooms, including a couple’s room, offer a range of treatments including hot stone massage, aroma and marine therapy, regenerating facials, detoxifying wraps and pampering beauty treatments, the resort says.
Decorated in muted greys, creams and earthy greens, the Spa also boasts a hammam, steam room, manicure and pedicure area, relaxation suite and outdoor terrace with views over Lough Corrib.
Products available to spa customers include Sligo's Voya, internationally renowned Elemis and Red Carnation Hotels’ own B|Africa product range.
The indoor pool area features three sea shell chandeliers, while a mosaic 'Tree of Life' by South African artist Jane Du Rand stretches across an entire wall.
A new gym, with elevated views over Ireland's second-largest lake, comes stocked with the latest fitness equipment, as well as a personal trainer.
And the price?
Spa packages at the 85-room hotel include two nights' B&B with one dinner at the George V, lunch and a Signature B|Together Spa Experience from €930pp.
The new facility will be run by spa manager Michelle Ryan in close consultation with Toni Tollman, daughter of Mrs Beatrice Tollman, President and Founder of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, the resort says.
Mother and daughter have been an integral part of the design team for Ashford Castle, having overseen its restoration, enhancement and renovation.
Along with its indoor activities and estate amenities including the falconry school and equestrian centre, the spa will make Ashford Castle more of an all-year-round destination for its guests, says General Manager, Niall Rochford.
