are the people really that friendly?

They are. Everybody made us feel welcome. Most sweet were the almond macaroons filled with cream, prepared by long-time pastry chef Gayle Walsh. Alas, Clare's famed traditional music was not a part of our stay. But we're told Cruises', Brogan's and The Diamond have something special.

would you return?

Only on more environmentally unfriendly transport that would enable day trips. We would also like to see the next May Fleadh (the trad fest).

WHAT'S THE DAMAGE?

The hotel has deals, including the two-night walking break, from €109pp sharing.
