Planning a week or two in Bangkok? Consider a serviced apartment rather than a hotel. They're often much cheaper and come with the amenities and services of a top five-star.

The latest arrival on the scene is the Oriental Residence, set in an iconic 32-storey building in a posh enclave of town.

Its starter suite, an executive deluxe, is ideal for two and comes with polished wood floors, slick furnishings and a smart kitchen.

On the Play Deck, exclusively for guests, there's a pool overlooking the city, a fitness suite and plenty of comfy corners for relaxing after a day on the tourist trail.

Breakfast is served from 6am in the chic Café Claire, which stays open throughout the day until 11pm.

The property is in the heart of the leafy embassy belt with no shortage of good restaurants nearby.

It's also home to shopping malls and the Bangkok Skytrain.

Prices start at THB 4,800 (€118) per night.
