Getting There

The lowest fare to Adelaide from Dublin with Qantas in low season is €1,069 (return), including all taxes and surcharges. Departures are April 16-June 20, 2010.

I travelled around with Banksia Adventures (banksia-adventures. com.au; 0061 884 319 311) who offer small and large group tours in all regions of Australia.

Staying there

The Wilpena Pound Resort offers a selection of packages for those who don't want to camp.

A two-night escape costs from AUS$529pps (€368) with a scenic flight and 4X4 half-day trip. A night at the resort costs from AUS$90pp (€63), room only. For information on camping, contact 0061 8868 0004; wilpena pound.com.au.

A night in one of Rawnsley Park Station's eco villas costs from AUS$350 (€243) (0061 886 480 030; rawnsleypark.com.au).

The Prairie Hotel has doubles from AUS$145 (€100) in the hotel, with other accommodation options and packages on offer (0061 886 484 895; prairiehotel.com.au).

In Clare, we stayed at Clare Country Club, which overlooks the adjacent golf course. See countryclubs.com.au.
