Overnight stays in Ireland

Caitlin McBride checks into a cool and contemporary hub of relaxation, nestled among 1,300 acres in Cavan.
Set the mood
It was a busy weekend and the hotel was fully booked. After more than an hour and a half on the road from Dublin (not too shabby), I have to give kudos to the staff who gave us service with a serious smile. The pouring rain let us guiltlessly forgo a walk around the grounds in favour of burgers and traditional fish n' chips at The Wine Goose Cellar Bar. Let the hours slip away at this cosy, cavernous restaurant.
Room to book
A standard room provides more than enough space for two to comfortably cuddle or catch up. The space was maximised with a grey chaise lounge, more than enough wardrobe space and bathrobes. If you can afford it, it's worth springing for a suite for the balcony alone and guarantee yourself a room with a serious view.
Food, glorious food
I've been told to never start my day without breakfast enough times to know to take full advantage of a continental buffet breakfast when presented with one. But it's the dinner at Farnham which is the real winner.
The Botanica Restaurant hosts views of the hotel's picturesque gardens. It's a carnivore's dream with Spring Eye Lamb, served with a memorable pea purée and pressed carrot cake, and Rib Eye on the Bone, sourced from local farmers, taking the top honours.
We chose to indulge with two desserts, the meringue and cheese board, and were happily rolled out of the restaurant after. Prices start at €45 for a three course meal, including tea or coffee.
There's a reason Farnham is famous for its spa, namely its indoor/outdoor infinity hydrotherapy pool. I'm not exactly what you would call an outdoors girls and there's nothing like fresh air to bring you back down to earth when you're looking for a calm escape from your busy life for a few hours.
If treatments are what you're into, a massage was just what the doctor ordered after a day exploring the expansive grounds. Saunas, steam baths and salt inhalation systems are the star attractions.
