German Alps - need to know

Getting There

Aer Lingus (0818 365 000; aerlingus.com) flies direct from Cork and Dublin to Munich. Ryanair (0818 303 030; ryanair.com) flies from Dublin to Memmingen, approximately 100km from Munich.

Staying There

Hotel Rappensberger (0049 841 3140; rappens berger.de) is a four-star in Ingolstadt's Old Town, roughly a 10-minute drive from the Audi Forum. It's a tidy, friendly hotel with a good bistro. Rates from €138 per room in April.

The Intercontinental in Berchtesgaden (0049 865 297 550; berchtesgaden. intercontinental.com) is a very impressive hideaway in the German Alps. It's a sleek new-build, with a ski run on the doorstep, a smashing spa and a choice of several restaurants. Rates from €149 per room in April.

The Audi Driving Experience

For further information on the Audi Driving Experience (0049 841 893 2900; drive@audi.de), download the Winter Driving programme on audi.com. Prices vary depending on the tour you select.

A one-day Altmuhl Valley tour, for example, costs €400pp.

A four-day Q7 Alpine tour, including three overnight stays, costs €1,850pp.

The Audi training experience starts at €380pp for one day, while a four-and-a-half-day ice-driving experience in Finland costs €4,000pp.
